SERV NOTAMS
Welcome This is home-base for the SouthEast RV Squadron, formerly known as the RVBGOTT. If you are building or flying an RV (or wish you were), and consider yourself to be in the southeast US, you should join our group. We are a casual group of folks who are very serious about having fun. For example: Surprise! Yesterday's cold front blew away all the crud. Now it's severe clear, and you have an amazing craving for a $100 hamburger! Shoot off and email to the SERV list, and discover five other guys are in the predicament. The next thing you know, you are leading a gaggle of RV's to the coast for lunch. Or, you need an extra set of hands to help buck the rivets on that last wing skin. But, your normal helper is on a three week cruise with his in-laws (ouch!). Ask the SERV list for help, and by the end of the weekend you're 300 rivets closer to finishing your plane. Sounds like fun? Thought so. To subscribe to the SERV email list and join us in the fun, jump here, find "RVSouthEast-List", and subscribe. Questions? Email Larry.
A Little History by Len Leggette Several years ago I was fortunate enough to meet Larry Bowen through our mutual love of Vans airplanes. Larry was building an 8 and I was building an 8A. We enjoyed getting together with fellow builder Paul Riedlinger to look over each other's project. It was then we decided to form the RVBGOTT. The loosely formed organization has met bi-monthly at different projects from Danville to Burlington. Over the past 1 ½ years more and more of our members have completed their projects leading to a declining interest in a "builders only" association. Larry and I have been to several of the events sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic RV Group in the DC area, as well as the TeamRV group in the Atlanta area. Another group has just formed in the Ohio area by Rick Gray, a former member of the Mid-Atlantic group. The RVBGOTT has been a "builders only" group with no flying activities. These other groups have both building and flying activities. Larry and I would like to dissolve the RVBGOTT and form a Vans Airforce Wing here in North Carolina. We would like to model this new group after the groups already formed in DC and Atlanta. We would like to have lots of informal flying activities as well as visiting builders projects. As with these other groups … most of the contact is done through email and a website. Lots of times you simply will receive an email at lunchtime saying "anyone want to fly late this afternoon"? Hopefully someone responds and late that afternoon we have several of us meeting up for some flying !! Some of the best inspiration for a builder is to attend a RV flying activity, whether it be just a few guys getting together after work for an hour of flying or a Saturday trip to somewhere. Weekends of course are the most popular time for getting together. I would like to see us get more RVs from around the state together instead of just from the Greensboro-Winston Salem area. Just for your information this letter is going out to approximately 75 people within 100 miles of GSO. More will be contacted through word of mouth and a list of plans holders from Vans. Formation flying has been especially popular in the other groups. I am very interested in flying with other RVs and furthering my competence in formation flying. There are several weekend formation clinics that are put on around the country. We should consider sponsoring one here in North Carolina. Questions? Email me: lenleg@aol.com
